Welcome to the Center for Human Services Website. Recently, I ran across a letter from Virginia Flower, one of the founding board members of the Center. The letter, written in October 1956, was an appeal to board members for funds to operate the Center. In the last paragraph she states: “We are getting lots of fine publicity on the Center and compliments from some of the top leaders of the country in rehabilitation work, but only because they think we have started a wonderful program. They think we have laid the foundation for a rehabilitation center to serve all of Central Missouri. They expect us to grow and grow we will, with the help of God, and our good Christian community.â€
I was struck by the legacy that is the Center. The founding board understood, in 1956, what our outcomes would be today. The Center for Human Services is a premier rehabilitation center that serves not only Central Missouri but 28 counties in Missouri! We have grown from the beginning with nine children being served in the basement of the hospital, to serving over 2000 children and adults in state of the art facilities! The communities we work in support what we do. We are nationally recognized and accredited. We have been able to accomplish these things because of great excellent staff and excellent leadership through our board of directors and through a seasoned and well functioning team of Directors.
